About CONAFE

CONAFE is a key player of the genetic improvement of the Holstein breed in Spain

 

At its core, CONAFE is serving the interests of more than of more than 4,400 Holstein breeders, members themselves of the regional Holstein associations in Spain, and having registered more than 706,000 animals in the Holstein breed.

CONAFE is responsible for herdbook, type recording, milk recording database management, as well as for genetic evaluations on Spanish scale. The Spanish breeders’ association also contributes to the promotion of the Holstein breed through the magazine Frisona Española, the websites www.conafe.com and www.revistafrisona.com, the weekly newsletter, whatsapp communities, social media platforms and to training of the farmers.

CONAFE is encouraging genotyping in Spain and provides monthly genomic evaluations for Holstein males (14% of the genotypes) and females (86% of the genotypes). In order to support farmers with genotyping, CONAFE developed the Recría Genómica program and the Advisory Service, organizes training on interpreting genomic results, or mating programs, and promotes collection and analysis of new traits data through the I-SA program and the projects GO-AMSOS, GO-NEOWAS and GO-INMUNOGEN.
